FIU Athletics hosts alumni, fans and supporters out on the links

The university’s Athletic Department hosted its annual golf tournament at the Doral Golf Resort & Spa on Aug. 6. Proceeds from the event benefit the FIU Athletic Department.

It was a beautiful day in Miami to paint the Doral Golf Resort & Spa blue and gold for the nearly 120 FIU Athletics fans and supporters, alumni and donors who participated in the FIU Annual Golf Tournament.

Among those taking part in the morning fun were FIU alumni and NBA players Carlos Arroyo, who plays for the Miami Heat, and Raja Bell from the Utah Jazz.

They joined FIU coaches Isiah Thomas (basketball) and Randy Horner, who recently joined FIU as the new swimming & diving coach, among others, including CNN correspondent and FIU Dad Rick Sanchez, out on the links.

Proceeds from the event – sponsored by Skanska, Pepsi, Doctor’s Hospital, University Credit Union, Sports Authority, Urbieta Oil and Pirtle Construction – will benefit the FIU Athletic Department.
