Preparing for Open Enrollment

FIU’s Annual Open Enrollment period is scheduled for Sept. 27-Oct. 22, 2010. During this period, benefit-eligible employees can elect to change, add or drop coverage and/or dependents from their benefits plans.

Preparing for Open Enrollment

Following these steps prior to this annual event will help ensure that you receive important benefits material:

  • Verify your Mailing Address:

People First will send Open Enrollment materials directly to the home address indicated in our payroll system.  Now is the time to update your mailing address online through Employee Self-Service (ESS).

  • Know Your Benefits:

Review your current benefits elections available on the People First website.  If you cannot access the People First System, we highly recommend that you go online to reset your password, as follows:

  • When logging into the improved People First system for the first time, you should ONLY use the first 8 characters of the password used in the old People First system.
  • If you forget your password, or lock your account on the People First Log In page, click the “Forgot Your Password?” link to reset the password.  You will be asked a few questions to validate your identity, such as the last FIVE digits of your Social Security Number.

When entering a new password, keep in mind that the new password must:

  1. Contain 8-30 characters
  2. Begin with a letter
  3. Contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter, and one number
  4. Not contain any spaces
  5. Not use the following special characters: ^ = ” { }
  6. Differ from your old password by at least one character
  7. Be different from the last ten passwords you used
  8. Have three different characters in the first three character spaces

Reminder: For additional information on password requirements, go to the Frequently Asked Questions document, in the State Employees and Retirees section on the People First website.

  • Attend a Benefits Workshop:

The Benefits Department will be facilitating “Understanding Your Benefits” workshops during the week of Aug. 30 – Sept. 2. Save the dates; further details are coming soon.
