School of Hospitality auction to benefit student programs

Available for bid: Brew your own label with School of Hospitality professor Barry Gump.

FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management will launch its first FIU Hospitality Online Auction on Sept. 3. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the school’s scholarship program; grants for students to attend industry conferences; and funding for student teaching assistantships.

Sponsored by Carnival Cruise Lines, the online auction is an alternative way for the school to reach a broader audience of potential donors and raise much-needed funds to help the next generation of travel and tourism professionals achieve their career goals.

“Ensuring that our students have the opportunity to pursue their dreams of a career in hospitality is our number one priority, and we are thrilled to work with FIU’s dedicated industry partners to embark on this new means of reaching our scholarship goals,” said Dean Joan Remington.

More than 100 auction items are available for bidding from Sept. 3 to Oct. 3, ranging in price from $250 to $7,500; auction items include:

  • Travel packages from Loews Hotels across the U.S. and Canada, Fontainebleau Miami Beach, Ritz Carlton Fort Lauderdale, Carnival Cruise Lines, Sandals and Beaches Resorts, InterContinental Hotels throughout China and more;
  • Entertainment experiences including tickets to Miami Heat games, the Rachael Ray Show, The View and Jungle Island; and
  • Culinary opportunities such as a pastry cooking and “brew your own label” classes with FIU professors.
