Volleyball’s Lakovic named to Florida State Invitational All-Tournament Team


Following a stellar performance during FIU volleyball’s opening weekend, junior Andrea Lakovic is one of nine student-athletes to be named the Florida State Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Lakovic led FIU in its first weekend of the 2010 season as FIU compiled a record of 1-2 at the Florida State Invitational, picking up a 3-1 win over Florida A&M and suffering hard-fought losses to New Mexico State (3-1) and 15th-ranked Florida State (3-0).

A native of Bar, Montenegro, Lakovic put together a stellar performance on both sides of the net, making major contributions on both offense and defense. The middle blocker amassed 34 kills across 11 sets for a kills per set mark of 3.09, en route to a hitting percentage of .338. In addition she posted a team-high four service aces on the weekend and recorded double-digit kills in all three matches, notching a personal season-high 12 kills in a win over Florida A&M.

Defensively, Lakovic recorded a team-high five total blocks on the strength of one solo block and four block assists.

FIU will travel to Ames, Iowa, this coming weekend, Sept. 3-4, for the Iowa State Invitational where the Panthers will take on South Dakota State (Friday, 5:30 p.m. ET), North Dakota State (Saturday, 2 p.m. ET) and No. 9 Iowa State (Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET).
