Youth organizations invited to FIU football games

MIAMI – Florida International University is inviting kids to its football games through its Community Partners Kids Club, which gives free tickets to organizations that work with children.

Elementary and middle schools, youth sports leagues, and non-profit organizations are eligible for the program, which allows school-age children to attend games such as FIU’s season opener against Rutgers for free. The FIU vs. Rutgers football game will take place at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010 at FIU Stadium on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St. in West Miami-Dade.

“FIU is committed to introducing children to the college experience through sports,” said FIU Athletic Director Pete Garcia. “This is another way for FIU Athletics to become engaged with the South Florida community.”

Any group interested in obtaining tickets should call Liz Augustin, assistant athletic director for student athlete development and community relations at 305-348-0154 or e-mail borrelll@fiu.edu.  Community Partners Kids Club tickets are available for all five home games this year.

Anyone interested in being a sponsor for the Community Partners Kids Club should call Shawn Thorimbert, associate athletic director for external relations, at 305-348-1764.

Military personnel and first responders such as firefighters and police officers also will be able to obtain complimentary tickets to the FIU-Rutgers game. To gain admission for themselves and one guest, military personnel and first responders should visit the ticket booth on game day at the University Credit Union Box Office located in the R. Kirk Landon Fieldhouse at the stadium and present their police, fire, or military identification. They can also come dressed in their first responder/military uniform. The University Credit Union Box Office will open at 4 p.m.
