FIU to host celebration of arts and events preview

WHAT:  Florida International University’s College of Architecture + The Arts, The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, and The Wolfsonian–FIU are joining together to present a celebration of the arts and offer an interactive preview of events for the 2010-2011 season. FIU Provost and Executive Vice President Douglas Wartzok will welcome guests to the event which will include a display of work produced by students and faculty members from each department within the College of Architecture + the Arts. Live performances by students representing FIU Theatre and the FIU School of Music will also be featured.

Exhibits will be available for viewing at The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum including “Spiritual Healing – Shamans of the Northwest Coast,” “After History,” and “DEMONS nurture/nature.” The exhibits will also include “La Habana Moderna” to be presented in The Wolfsonian Teaching Gallery at the Frost Art Museum.  Supported with funding from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, The Wolfsonian Teaching Gallery provides an opportunity for FIU faculty members to work with museum staff in developing exhibitions from The Wolfsonian collection that serve as resources for teaching and learning.  Guests will also be able to preview upcoming events at The Wolfsonian through an interactive slide show.

WHO: The FIU College of Architecture + the Arts breaks new ground through interdisciplinary curricula that promotes exploration, discovery, and innovation among its disciplines—architecture, art & art history, communication arts, interior design, landscape architecture, music, and theater.

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum provides resources for scholarly research and interdisciplinary collaboration, augmenting the university’s educational mission as both a local and global center of knowledge and culture. Admission is free and exhibits are open to the public.

The Wolfsonian’s mission as a museum and research center is reflected in its multidisciplinary approach to looking at objects as both agents and expressions of change. It does so through exhibitions, publications, educational programs, and individual scholarship.
