In a nutshell: I teach, write grants, do training in the public health area with a major focus on identifying and working in new frontiers of HIV prevention and keeping track of these areas for my CDC-funded HIV Lserv, which I distribute to more than 5,000 researchers on a daily basis.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Writing grants.

What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department?

It aims to enhance the health of people through the use of bio-psychosocial procedures.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

The libraries since they are well organized and conformable for work.

If there is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU, what would it be?

I would like them to learn more about FIU’s biological and biomedical research and its growing infrastructure to integrate with public health and clinical interventions.

Family snapshot:

My wife, Michele, is a cardiologist. I have three daughters: Jennifer, 15, and twins Jessica and Nicole, 10.

Word that best describes you: Intellectually ambitious.

First paying job: Clinical psychologist at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Favorite TV show: “In Treatment” on HBO or “CSI: Miami” or C-Span.

What is playing on your iPod?

I usually listen to webcasts of conferences on my IPod.

Your proudest accomplishment:

My three daughters. My oldest was valedictorian of her junior high school and my 9-year-old twins are becoming involved in modeling.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

I play sports with my three daughters. I run. I listen to podcasts from HIV presentations around the world.
