School of Social Work to launch alumni chapter with conference

An all-day conference on Oct. 1 at MMC will also further the school’s commitment to community engagement by offering workshops and presentations on a variety of topics of interest to social-work professionals, alumni and students.

The School of Social Work will host its First Annual Alumni and Friends Continuing Education Conference. The event is a collaboration with the university’s alumni association.

The all-day conference is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Attendance is $25 for students, $60 for FIU alumni and $80 general admission.

The event not only will mark the inauguration of the school’s alumni chapter, but it also will further its commitment to community engagement by offering professional social workers, alumni and current students a variety of workshops.

Three topics will be covered during the conference in the MARC building at Modesto A. Maidique Campus, including workshops on “At- Risk Populations,” “Working with Trauma Survivors” and “Licensure Renewal.”
