The College of Architecture + The Arts hosted its annual Arts, Design and Culture event Sept. 30 at the Frost Art Museum at MMC to celebrate the beginning of the college’s many upcoming events.
The unmistakable bars of “Seasons of Love” echoed through the galleries of the Frost Art Museum Sept. 30 as the College of Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) hosted its second annual soiree to preview its 2010-’11 season of events.
The voices behind the arresting performance belonged to members of the cast of the FIU Theatre company (pictured at right) that will stage a production of the Pulitzer Prize- and Tony Award-winning rock opera Rent beginning Nov. 4.
“Rent will be directed by FIU alumnus and Broadway star Andy Señor Jr. ’97,” said CARTA Interim Dean Brian Schriner. Señor played Angel in the musical for several years. “Andy has come back to FIU to direct the show, which will run for three weeks beginning Homecoming weekend.”
The musical will run Nov. 4-7, 11-14 and 18-21, at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday, in the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center Main Stage.

Every department in the college was represented during the evening, including architecture, art and art history (which highlighted December’s Masters’ Mystery Art Show), communication arts, interior design (which previewed its annual Festival of the Trees opening Nov. 18 – click here for a look at last year’s event), landscape architecture and music.
More than 300 students, alumni, faculty/staff, administrators and supporters attended the event at the Frost and enjoyed a featured performance by the Laptop & Electronic Art Ensemble led by assistant professor Paula Matthusen.
