FIU professor selected as “Outstanding Dietetics Educator”

Professor Tania Rivera

The American Dietetic Association (ADA) has honored an FIU professor as an outstanding educator in recognition of her achievements as a teacher, mentor and leader.

Tania Rivera, professor of dietetics and nutrition and an undergraduate advisor, was one of only 20 professors around the country who received the “Outstanding Dietetics Educator” award earlier this year.

Rivera, who is also the advisor for the Student Dietetic Association, has been teaching at FIU for five years.

“I feel very honored,” she said. “I really enjoy what I do. I love teaching.”

In honoring her, the ADA said she exemplifies the values of the association, plays a vital role in leading the future of dietetics, and serves as a role model for future practitioners.

Giselle Echeverry, treasurer of the Student Dietetic Association, is one of Rivera’s students and nominated the professor for the award. Echeverry said Rivera is a professor who truly cares about her students and who is always trying her best to improve.

“She is an outstanding professor, exceptional advisor and overall incomparable individual,” she wrote in a letter to the ADA.
