University community invited to Faculty Convocation

FIU will hold its annual Faculty Convocation events Oct. 6-8, celebrating the collective pride and individual accomplishments of the university’s academics who are selected for recognition by their peers and celebrated by the entire university community.

Kicking off the events will be the annual Faculty Convocation Concert on Wednesday, which is performed courtesy of the FIU School of Music faculty and ensembles. This year’s concert will showcase music from France and the French Diaspora. A reception at the Frost Art Museum will immediately follow.

With teaching schedules in mind, the grand convocation and awards ceremony will take place Thursday from 3 to 4:30 p.m., a period during which no regularly scheduled classes are taught at the university.

Twelve members of the faculty have been selected for excelling in one of the categories of teaching, research, mentorship, librarianship or service. Three adjunct faculty will be recognized for their excellence in teaching and three of our most distinguished professors have been nominated as finalists for the Outstanding Faculty Award of the President’s Council, which requires the recipients to have demonstrated sustained excellence in all three areas: teaching, research and service.

John F. Stack, director of SIPA, is this year’s keynote speaker and will explore the topic: “Miami: From Local to Global and Back Again.” This address also provides the context for the panel discussion taking place at the Faculty Convocation Luncheon on Friday.
