Volleyball partners with Liga Contra el Cáncer to raise awareness among fans Oct. 15

In their second annual “Dig Pink” event, FIU volleyball will help Liga Contra el Cáncer raise cancer awareness by dedicating their game Friday, Oct. 15, against Sun Belt Conference foe Middle Tennessee to the cause.

During that game, FIU Director of Academic Support Services Rosa Saez, who is a cancer survivor, will be presented with a pink volleyball signed by the team and head coach Danijela Tomic.

La Liga’s “Vehicle of Hope” will be on campus all day, game day (between the Blue and Gold garages at Modesto A. Maidique Campus) and in front of the U.S. Century Bank Arena during the game to a hand out educational material and collect donations.

The first 100 fans to arrive will receive a free “Dig Pink” T-shirt or bracelet.

“Dig Pink” is part of the university’s new Play Pink initiative. FIU External Relations and FIU Athletics teamed up with La Liga to support cancer awareness, education, prevention and the search for a cure. Teams will dedicate several home games in the upcoming months to cancer survivors who are part of the FIU family.

Friday’s game starts at 6:30 p.m. in U.S. Century Bank Arena. Tickets are available at the door. FIU students with ID get in free, FIU faculty/staff tickets are $3, all other tickets are $5.
