The Wolfsonian-FIU throws a Quince to celebrate milestone anniversary

The museum’s newly formed Visionaries group organized a fabulous birthday bash at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Nov. 12 to mark The Wolfsonian-FIU’s coming out in style.

More than 300 dressed-to-the-nines guests were on hand to help The Wolfsonian-FIU celebrate its milestone 15th anniversary on Nov. 12 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach. It was, as Cathy Leff, the museum’s director, said, “a bit coming-out party for The Wolfsonian-FIU – it’s what a quinceañera is about. It’s a celebration.”

Leff also thanked many of the supporters who have contributed to the museum, chief among them its founder, Mitchell “Micky” Wolfson, Jr., as well as its community supporters and members.

“There’s no way The Wolfsonian would be as successful as it has been without this community,” she said. “Without their support we couldn’t provide the perspective we do or be the educational resource we are as part of FIU.”

The fabulous Quince birthday bash was the premiere event organized by the museum’s newly formed Wolfsonian Visionaries group.

The Visionaries are a group of community leaders, many of whom have made their names in the art and design worlds, who work with the museum to plan events such as the Wolfsonian Quince.

The group is engaged in an ongoing dialogue with The Wolfsonian-FIU, providing ideas and feedback in areas such as programming and fundraising.

“The group – there’s about 100 of us – has been together for about a year,” said Gingi Beltran, a Wolfsonian Visionary and Quince co-chair. “We’re a group of creative people who have been asked to help carry on the museum’s legacy. It’s a great privilege to oversee the party and to be a part of The Wolfsonian-FIU.”

The Quince was part of a very special Very Wolfsonian Weekend Nov. 11-13, which included a celebration of the museum’s ongoing “Speed Limits” exhibition and a community open house, featuring tours presented in conjunction with the Miami Beach Design Preservation League.
