Who will you get? The Masters’ Mystery Art Show is Dec. 2

FIU’s Masters’ Mystery Art Show will take over the Ritz-Carlton, South Beach beginning at noon. Stop by and purchase a card, an original creation by an FIU student or faculty or, perhaps, a well-known artist or celebrity and support the university’s MFA in visual arts program.

Art Basel Miami Beach is turning the world’s spotlight on the Magic City, and FIU will get in on the action with its 7th Annual Masters’ Mystery Art Show Dec. 2 and the Dec. 5 Breakfast in the Park event at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

The Masters’ Mystery Art Show (MMAS), an international fundraising exhibition benefiting the FIU master in fine arts (MFA) in visual arts program, will kick off a weekend of blue-and-gold art events at the swank Ritz-Carlton, South Beach.

Among the weekend’s other highlights is The Wolfsonian-FIU’s presentation of Isabella Rossellini’s “Seduce Me”. But back to the MMAS….

A wall of postcards – all original works of art – awaits guests in the hotel’s lobby, from noon to 7 p.m. A by-invitation-only reception is scheduled for 7 p.m.

The fun of the show, a signature event of the College of Architecture + The Arts, lies in the fact that guests will not find out the identity of the artists behind the cards until they purchase one.

One hundred percent of the MMAS proceeds go to support study-abroad scholarships, visiting artists and annual awards for MFA candidates.

The question is: Who will you get?

The Masters’ Mystery Art Show allows art aficionados to turn sleuths as they browse through nearly 2,000 six-inch by nine-inch variable media postcards. Each will go for $50 – a bargain when you consider you could take home an original creation by surrealist painter Juan Carlos Liberti, Shaq, or Romero Britto, all of whom have participated in the past.
