New Worlds Ahead billboards greet airport travelers

FIU kicked off its external Worlds Ahead campaign this week at Miami International Airport. Two large, lit display boards will greet holiday travelers and stay up through the spring break season.

The university’s External Relations team developed the advertising as a play on the vintage postcards of Miami’s boom era. You can see them in the American Airlines domestic baggage claim.

“If you are in the airport, and you love FIU as much as we do, send us a photo of yourself next to the sign,” said FIU Marketing Director Eduardo Merille ’00, MBA ‘97.

FIU will post all the photos in public photo albums on Facebook and Flickr.

Merille said FIU chose the airport because of the numbers of travelers, across all demographics, who will pass through MIA in the coming months — more than 4 million people.

“We hope the display work on two levels: First, we hope people think it’s a beautiful image and want to take a photo of it,” Merille said.  “Second, we want to make people aware that FIU is Miami’s university.”
