On-campus ‘Nutcracker’ performances to aid Haiti


Proceeds from the FIU Alternative Theater and School of Music’s collaborative staging of the Christmas classic Dec. 15 at MMC will benefit the university’s Haiti Relief Task Force.

One of Tchaikovsky’s most beloved scores will get the blue-and-gold treatment this holiday season as FIU’s Alternative Theater and School of Music mount a one-night-only staging of The Nutcraker on Wednesday, Dec. 15, at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

The performance, starring the FIU Amernet String Quartet under the direction of Phillip Church, is set for 7 p.m. in the Main Stage of the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the FIU Haiti Relief Task Force.

The evening will feature some very special guests, including Brian Schriner, interim dean of the College of Architecture + The Arts, playing Dr. Drosselmeier, FIU Theater students Tatiana Pandiani and Jason Caceres, and Gabby Diaz, a guest dancer from the New World School of theArts, as the Sugar Plum Fairy.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $5 for children under 12.
