The Frost awarded Knight Arts Challenge grant to expand new media

The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum has received a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge to integrate new media and technologies into the museum’s exhibits.

“With this grant, the museum will be able to connect to an even broader audiences across the world and make art even more accessible,” said Carol Damian, director and chief curator.

“Audiences want to be a part of exhibits. They want to engage with them, and curate their own experience – which this grant will help the Frost Art Museum do,” said Dennis Scholl, Knight Foundation’s vice president/arts.

The museum will build a technology infrastructure to facilitate the creation of online communities through video, podcasts, online chats, high-quality webcasts and mobile apps. Live feeds will be streamed to interactive kiosks at the museum entrance. The museum’s internal system will receive an upgrade so staff can log in from anywhere in the world.

FIU’s Creative Writing Program also received a $150,000 grant from the Knight Arts Challenge to develop a graduate fellowship program in creative writing.
