FIU students headed to D.C. to perform in ‘Body & Sold’ Jan. 11


Nine FIU Theater students and one alumnus will join a handful of students from McKinley High School in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, Jan. 11, for a dramatized staged reading of Body & Sold, a play depicting the stories of 10 victims of human trafficking.

The performance will take place at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

“The day is of particular significance because it has been recognized as national human trafficking day,” said Theatre professor Phillip Church, the play’s director. “This play has resonated with audiences in several cities because it addresses the issue of human trafficking in a unique way.”

Body & Sold is based on transcripts extracted from interviews conducted by playwright Deborah Fortson in which 10 young victims of human trafficking share their experiences and journeys of loss of innocence and redemption.
