Job Title/Department: Director of Outreach, Center for Children and Families (CCF).

Campus: Modesto A. Maidique Campus. We are working on opening a site at Biscayne Bay Campus.

In a nutshell: The mission of the CCF is to study the etiology, mechanisms and treatment of mental health and learning difficulties of children and adolescents, and to provide education and services for their families and the professionals who work with them.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I think that it is the pleasure I get from interacting with such an incredibly smart, dedicated group of people who care about improving the lives of children and their families.

What do you think students and your fellow faculty/staff should know about your department?

The Center for Children and Families is unparalleled. There is nowhere in the world that you can find such a devoted group of experts, a place where families can receive such cutting-edge treatment or where such innovative research is happening.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

Bustelo, for its Cuban coffee.

What is one thing you wish everyone knew about FIU?

That FIU is an incredibly welcoming place to work and learn. People are so eager to help and to support one another.

Family snapshot:

My family is home in Ohio: my mom, my two sisters; my dad, my stepmom, one stepsister and two stepbrothers. I’ve been lucky to cultivate a great family of friends in South Florida.

First paying job: I was a starter at a community golf course.

Your proudest accomplishment:

I have two: finishing my dissertation and being a good sister.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

I love spending time with friends, cooking, going to the beach and reading a good book.
