Legendary violinist to perform at FIU, help raise funds for School of Music


Internationally acclaimed violinist Ida Haendel will join FIU’s artist-in-residence and piano great Kemal Gekic during a concert to benefit the School of Music on Thursday, Jan. 20, at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. in the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center. Ticket are $10 for FIU students and Alumni Association members, $15 for seniors and FIU faculty/staff, $25 for general admission.

All proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the School of Music.

Haendel has performed with most of the world’s major orchestras under numerous star conductors on several continents. She has been traversing concert stages for more than 70 years and continues to connect with audiences in a very special way.

Gekic has recorded nine solo albums with works that range from Handel, Scriabin and Chopin, to Liszt and Mozart. Numerous music critics from the Boston Globe and the San Francisco Chronicle have described his work as original and charismatic.

In this collaborative performance, Haendel and Gekic will feature works by Ludwig van Beethoven, Cesar Frank and Pablo Sarasate.
