FIU Theatre brings ‘Pride and Prejudice’ to the stage

For its second production of the spring semester FIU Theatre will present a production of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, adapted by Jon Jory and directed by Phillip Church, associate professor of theatre, March 3-13 at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

BFA in performance students Fadoua Hanine and Jair Bula portray Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy in FIU Theatre's "Pride and Prejudice."

This classic tale of love and values unfolds in the class-conscious England of the early 19th century. It tells the story of the five Bennet sisters, who have been raised by their mother with one purpose in life: to find a husband. Life for the family is uneventful until a wealthy bachelor takes up residence on a nearby country estate. Amongst the man’s sophisticated circle of friends, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for these eligible sisters. Love is soon in the air, but many trials and tribulations stand between the sisters and their happiness, including class, gossip, scandal and, of course, pride and prejudice.

Thursday-through-Saturday shows of Pride and Prejudice are set for 8 p.m., while Sunday shows are scheduled for 2 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Herbert & Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and FIU faculty and staff and $10 for FIU students and members of the FIU Alumni Association and are available online. For more information, call 305-348-0496.
