FIU to host College Goal Sunday

WHAT:  Florida International University will host the “College Goal Sunday,” a one-day event to assist university-bound students with financial aid forms.  High school senior students and their families are invited to attend the statewide event to get free help with completing financial aid application forms, including those required for federal government programs.  Other state universities hosting the event include the University of Central Florida, Florida State University and the University of South Florida.

What to bring, where applicable:

  • 2010 Taxes and W2 forms for student, parents and spouse
  • Alien Registration Number, if not a U.S. citizen
  • Asset information for student, parents and spouse, including savings, checking and investments.

If no 2010 tax information is available, the student will be able to complete the FAFSA application by using an estimated income based on W2 forms.

WHO:  The event will feature higher education leaders, organizations and university financial aid officers assisting with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, a required form that determines eligibility for some state financial aid, as well as all federal aid, such as the Federal Pell Grant Program, work-study aid and loans.

WHEN: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011

WHERE: In the College of Nursing and Health Sciences computer lab, rooms 211, 212 and 213 of the Academic Health Center (AHC-3) at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8th St., in West Miami-Dade.  Free parking will be provided in PG5 Market Station, located across the street from AHC-3
