Baseball, softball, basketball and free tailgate – all this weekend

FIU fans are invited to join the university community for an all-sports day, Super Saturday, Feb. 19, at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Baseball

Super Saturday kicks off with FIU baseball playing Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m.

Last season, the squad defied all odds by winning five-straight games in the double-elimination conference tournament to earn the right to call themselves Sun Belt Conference champions. The Panthers were voted to finish second in the conference in 2011 by the league coaches.

Tailgate

FIU Alumni Association and Panther Rage are hosting a free tailgate from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. along SW 115th Ave. The party isopen to all fans and includes free food, music, face painters, interactive games and giveaways. Games include a climbing wall, video games, bounce house, mechanical bull and a two-story slide. Barnes & Noble will be on site selling gear. Members of the baseball team will sign autographs during the tailgate.

Softball

The FIU Softball Felsberg Tournament will take place at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The ladies return to the field after closing out opening weekend, Feb.11-13, with a 3-0 victory over North Florida.

Basketball

After softball, head over to U.S. Century Bank Arena for a basketball doubleheader against FAU with the women playing at 4:30 p.m., and men’s tip-off at  7 p.m.

Fans are encouraged to wear white to the basketball games to support the Panthers. The first 1,000 fans to the men’s game will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of FIU Athletics, SGA, Panther Rage, Campus Life and RHA.

Tickets

Students enter all games for free. Fans who bring a “Go Free” Pepsi can (found in grocery stores throughout South Florida) get into the baseball and softball games for free, but will have to purchase tickets to the men’s and women’s basketball games. If you can’t get your hands on a can, a $15 admission ticket will get you a reserved seat at all the games as well as free food, music, games, prizes and more.

To purchase a Super Saturday Ticket Package, call 305.FIU.GAME or visit the University Credit Union box office in the R. Kirk Landon Fieldhouse at FIU Stadium.

Packages must be purchased and picked up from the University Credit Union Box Office by 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 18.
