Original works by FIU students on view at Aventura Mall

Ten original works of art created by FIU students are currently on display at Aventura Mall, on more than 100 tables in the food court.

An art work by Jillian Mayer '07.

The showcase, sponsored by the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum, features images ranging from the tender (like that of two seniors holding hands) to the playful (such as the photo of a puppy peering through a wrought iron fence).

“We [were] excited to launch this wonderful collaboration that brings community exposure to talented art students,” said Jacqueline Fletcher, director for Turnberry for the Arts of the exhibit, which runs through Feb. 28. “The art is fun and whimsical.”

Thirty-five submissions were narrowed down to the final 10, based on criteria that kept in mind the Aventura Mall setting.

“The students were enthusiastic about the project and found it quite challenging,” said Carol Damian, the Frost’s director and chief curator. “This is a thrilling partnership.”

One of FIU student Andrea Nones' works is also being showcased at Aventura Mall through Feb. 28.

“It feels really good that I get a chance to show my work to so many different people,” said Andrea Nones. “Also, it’s sort of fun to see it outside of the typical art setting.”
