Cast members, director preview FIU Theatre’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’

The production will run at the Wertheim Performing Arts Center March 3-13.

Starting this evening, and through March 13, the FIU family will be able to enjoy a real on-stage treat when FIU Theatre presents its production of Jane Austen’s classic tale, Pride and Prejudice.

Directed by associate professor of theatre Phillip Church from an adaptation by Jon Jory, the production stars Fadoua Hanine as the beloved Elizabeth Bennet, theatre major Jair Bula as Mr. Darcy and performance student DeAnna Drayton as Mrs. Bennet.

We met with Bula and Drayton in anticipation of opening night so the two actors could share a little bit about their process and preview what we can expect of this most blue-and-gold staging of a classic story about love and values set against class-conscious early-9th century England, which Drayton calls “the original romantic comedy.”

Thursday-through-Saturday shows of Pride and Prejudice are set for 8 p.m., while Sunday shows are scheduled for 2 p.m. on the Main Stage of the Herbert & Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center.

Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors and FIU faculty and staff and $10 for FIU students and members of the FIU Alumni Association and are available online. For more information, call 305-348-0496.
