FIU divers encounter turtle at Spiegel Grove

On a recent dive at Spiegel Grove, FIU Dive Program participants were accompanied by a playful turtle. Spiegel Grove, a 510-foot landing ship dock and the largest vessel ever internationally sunk, is the backbone of the artificial reef system that has formed in Key Largo.

FIU Dive, which emphasizes environmental awareness and protection, promotes and represents the university at several international science and diving conferences. FIU’s research diving statistics have designated FIU as one of the top ten active marine research institutions in the United States.

The program offers basic and advanced scuba diving courses. Upon successful completion of the beginner course requiring six dives, students will be certified as a scuba diver through NAUI Services Group, Inc.
