FIU Theatre brings Shakespeare’s ‘Twelfth Night’ to life

FIU Theatre’s last show of the season brings William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night to the stage at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

Nathalie Nodarse as Feste and Sarai Heria as Viola

In this classic comedy about mistaken identities, twin brother and sister Viola and Sebastian are separated when their ship capsizes and each thinks the other is dead. When Viola washes ashore in a foreign country, she dresses as her brother and adopts the name Cesario.

She becomes a trusted friend and confidante to Duke Orsino, who is madly in love with Countess Olivia. When Olivia refuses his attentions, Orsino sends Cesario as his emissary, only to have Olivia fall in love with the disguised maiden.

Complications ensue as foppish nobleman Sir Andrew Aguecheek and a self-important servant, Malvolio, get caught up in the schemes of Olivia’s uncle, Sir Toby Belch, who leads each to believe Olivia loves him. Viola’s lost brother Sebastian then turns up and is mistaken for Cesario, further twisting and turning this fun-filled classic tale, right up to its rousing conclusion.

Talented theatre students bring to life this popular masterpiece, under the direction of Wayne E. Robinson Jr., April 7 through April 17 at the Herbert and Nicole Wertheim Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theater. Shows will run Thursday through Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.

Ticket prices are $15 for general admission; $12 for seniors and FIU faculty/staff; and $10 for FIU students and members of the FIU Alumni Association. Tickets can be purchased online.
