FIU to celebrate Graduate Student Appreciation Week March 28-April 1


Everyone’s invited to celebrate the research, service and life of the university’s graduate students March 28-April 1 when FIU presents its inaugural Graduate Student Appreciation Week.

“The purpose of the week is to showcase what our graduate students are doing on campus, highlighting the talent that is inherent among our graduate community,” says Allison McComb, associate director of the University Graduate School. “The life of a graduate student is typically less visible but no less vibrant than that of our undergraduate students.”

Many universities around the country observe Graduate Student Appreciation Week, says McComb. Nationally, Graduate Student Appreciation Week is slated for April 4-8. Scheduling conflicts, however, led FIU to move up its celebration by one week.

The week will be sponsored by SGA, the Graduate Student Funding Committee and University Graduate School. Events are geared toward current graduate students, graduate faculty and staff, but McComb says all members of the FIU community are encouraged to participate. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, March 28

Scholarly Forum (posters and presentations): Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, Health and Medicine

Location: Graham Center, Room 243, Modesto A. Maidique Campus

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Tuesday, March 29

Scholarly Forum (posters and presentations): Social Sciences, Humanities, Law, Education

Location: Graham Center Ballrooms, Modesto A. Maidique Campus

Time: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Wednesday, March 30

Graduate Student Resource Fair**

Location: Chapman Plaza, Modesto A. Maidique Campus

Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Friday, April 1

Global Awareness Session: “Uprisings in the Arab World & U.S. Foreign Policy”

Location: PG-5, Room 155, Modesto A. Maidique Campus

Time: 3 to 5 p.m.

 

GradSkellar@Chili’s Too, hosted by the Modern Languages GSO (MLGSO)

Location: Chili’s Too, Modesto A. Maidique Campus

Time: 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
