Gov. Scott appoints three members to FIU’s Board of Trustees


Gov. Rick Scott announced the reappointment of Claudia Puig and the appointments of Dr. Jose J. Armas and Mayi De La Vega to the Florida International University Board of Trustees.

“These members will add their unique perspectives to this dynamic and entrepreneurial board,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “With their guidance, FIU will continue its momentum and keep reaching out to all areas of our community so that this university can continue to be worlds ahead.”

Puig, 58, is senior vice president and East Coast regional manager for Univision Radio, which owns four of the top-rated Spanish-language radio stations in Miami.

During her tenure, Univision Radio’s FM stations in Miami have consistently ranked among the top three stations in the market while WAQI-AM and WQBA-AM rank number one and two among the AM stations. Puig is also Board Member to the City of Miami Arts and Entertainment Council.

She is reappointed for a term beginning March 22, 2011, and ending January 6, 2016.

Armas, 52, is the chief executive officer and president of MCCI Group Holdings LLC, a family of medical centers that includes 33 modern facilities serving 50,000 patients throughout the South Florida region. 

Armas is appointed for a term beginning March 22, 2011, and ending January 6, 2016. He succeeds Albert Maury, who was appointed as a trustee by the Florida Board of Governors in January and continues to serve on the FIU Board of Trustees.

De La Vega, 56, is the founder and owner of ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, a high-end luxury property real estate firm. 

Founded two years ago, ONE Sotheby’s International Realty has quickly expanded to include four offices throughout South Florida with more than 200 full-time agents. De La Vega, whose profile consists of prestigious clientele, has formed partnerships with the Sotheby’s brand in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Russia, Peru, and soon Panama, expanding her portfolio to an international arena.

She succeeds former Chairman of the Board,Albert Dotson and is appointed for a term beginning March 22, 2011, and ending January 6, 2016.

The three members join trustees Michael M. Adler, Marcelo Claure, Sukrit Agrawal, Cesar L. Alvarez, S. Lawrence Kahn, III, Jorge L. Arrizurieta, Albert Maury, Thomas Breslin, Joseph L. Caruncho and Helena Ramirez.
