The Art of Giving Project wants you: Donated sneakers to be painted by art students

The FIU Art + Art History Department is inspired by The Art of Giving project, a national fundraising campaign that assists children in the world’s neediest countries, but wants to do something a little different.

FIU will send underprivileged Haitian kids Converse shoes adorned with creative designs painted by art students. You can help by donating a pair of of kids’-sized Converse All Stars canvas sneakers from now until April 8.

Drop off your donations at several locations around campus: VH 216, PCA 272, GC 1215, or the Faculty Club.

On April 8, between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the Graham Center Gallery, students will turn the canvas shoes into works of art.

The event, a contribution to the university’s Global Learning Initiative, is part of FIU’s Diversity Week (April 4-8). The week celebrates the importance of diversity and identity in higher education, in the community and in the global arena.
