Students of all ages turn out for TAG: The Art of Giving

FIU employee Kevin Huggins, a statistical research coordinator in the Office of Planning & Institutional Research, created this video and brief write-up about the university’s April 8 TAG: The Art of Giving event. When the FIU News team saw it, we asked Huggins if we could share his work on our news site. The 13-year veteran of FIU graciously agreed. Thanks for being our eyes and ears on this one, Kevin! Here is what he reported:

Got the opportunity to do a little filming for Florida International University’s Diversity Week 2011. There were a number of events organized by the Office of Equal Opportunity Programs and Diversity, but this one in particular caught my interest, TAG: The Art of Giving.

The TAG project is a fundraising campaign organized by the FIU Art + Art History Department to assist children in some of the world’s most neediest countries. As part of FIU’s Diversity Week, TAG organized donations of more than 100 pairs of shoes to be hand-painted by FIU students, FIU Children’s Creative Learning Center (CCLC) students, as well as walk-in volunteers. The CCLC students delivered and decorated 28 pairs of sneakers and included rolled-up comic strips tied with blue and yellow ribbon into each pair of sneakers.
