Honorary Panther travels to cheer on FIU baseball at conference play

Dave Stewman LOVES baseball. But the native Tennessean never had a favorite team until last May when he saw FIU baseball play at the 2010 Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Honorary Panther Dave Stewman dyed his beard blue in honor of FIU

“I just really liked the hard-nosed, never let up attitude that Coach Turtle Thomas has instilled in these kids. They are never out of a game and they play each out like if it was their last,” said Stewman while cheering for the Panthers at the 2011 SBC Tournament.

“I just enjoy the hell out of how this team plays. Since I’m loud at the FIU games, people ask me, ‘which one is your son?’ and I tell them they are all my sons. This is my team.”

FIU baseball will take on the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR) Trojans in the SBC championship game Sunday, May 29. The Panthers look to claim their second-straight SBC title.

First pitch is at 2 p.m. and will air on the Sun Belt Network.
