Becoming a Golden Dazzler 2011

You see them at football games and at events around campus. They can be spotted cheering on the home team and taking male students’ breath away. They are the FIU Golden Dazzlers.

But becoming a member of this squad and succeeding takes uncommon dedication, and a grueling, day-long audition. Tryouts for the 2011-2012 team were held last month at Modesto A. Maidique Campus.

“Being a Dazzler is definitely not just dancing,” said head coach Paulina Muñoz. “It’s being committed, really embracing the vision and mission of FIU.”

Of the 42 rookies who auditioned only between 18-20 would make the squad. Candidates were narrowed down in two rounds of elimination where dancers were judged on technique and overall appearance.

FIU sports blogger and guest judge Pete Pelegrin said that he was looking for “a young lady who exudes Panther spirit and can get the crowd going at FIU games.”
