FIU hosts more than a dozen summer camps


From scuba lessons to art lessons to improving sports skills, FIU is offering kids and teens many options at camps this summer. FIU’s coaches, faculty and staff are running camps in art, culture, the environment, sports, as well as a summer treatment program for children and teens with behavioral problems. Here are the programs available this year:

Art

Frost Art Museum

Campers will learn arts and crafts as well as receive tours of the museum’s exhibitions and create art inspired by the tours.  Projects include painting, drawing, clay, murals, watercolors and more. Lessons will be led by an art teacher and an assistant teacher.

Location: Modesto A. Maidique Campus
Who: Children ages 6 to 12, grades 1 through 5
Cost: $275 per child per 2-week session.  Cost includes art supplies and a daily snack. A 10 percent discount is available for museum members.
Dates: June 20 – July 1; July 5 – July 15; July 18 – July 29

Marine Biology

EcoAcademy

Biscayne Bay Campus Recreation, Vice-Provost Office of Environmental Initiatives and Marine Biology have come together to offer two weeks of hands-on educational programming as well as swimming instruction, kayaking and scuba instruction.

Location: Biscayne Bay Campus
Who: Middle and high school students, ages 12 to 17
Cost: $225 per week; $200 per week for FIU faculty and staff
Dates: July 11-22
Hours: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Center for Children and Families

Summer Treatment Program

Are you looking for something more than medication to help improve your child’s behavior? The Center for Children and Families (CCF) at Florida International University (FIU) offers an award-winning comprehensive treatment program for children’s behavioral, emotional, and learning problems. The program is for first through sixth graders as well as adolescents.

Football

Mario Cristobal Football Fundamentals Camps

Sun Belt Conference Coach of the Year and FIU Head Coach Mario Cristobal will be holding two football fundamentals camps this summer.
Individual Camp

Location: FIU Stadium
Who: Students entering grades 9-12
Cost: $30 per person and students must bring a t-shirt, gym shorts, sneakers and football cleats
Date: Saturday, June 4

Second Camp
Location: Dr. Phillips High School, 6500 Turkey Lake Rd, Orlando, FL
Who: Students entering grades 9-12
Cost: $30 per person and students must bring a t-shirt, gym shorts, sneakers and football cleats
Date: Sunday, June 5

Soccer

Golden Panther Soccer Academy

This camp is designed to provide a controlled environment that will allow for the best soccer instruction for all players. It is staffed with current FIU coaches, other top level coaches, as well as current and past FIU men’s and women’s players.

Location: FIU Stadium
Who: Boys and girls, ages 6-14
Cost: Full day (9 a.m. – 3 p.m.): $190; Half day (9 a.m. – 12 p.m.): $125
Date: June 13-16

Girls Residential Camp & Boys Residential Camp – Golden Panther Soccer Academy
These two residential sessions are for the player that is looking to make the next step in his or her development.

Location: FIU Stadium
Who: Ages 13-18
Cost: $450 overnight campers; $375 commuters (9 a.m. – 8 p.m.)

All-Skills Camp

Elite Camp All-Skills

Who: Available to all 9th – 12th graders
Cost: $90
Date: July 21, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Coach Danijela Tomic will be offering a variety of summer camps at FIU’s Modesto A. Maidique Campus for boys and girls between the ages of 7-18. Options include full-day individual camps, half-day individual camps and setter/hitter camps.

Center for Diversity in Engineering and Computing

Miami Pre-college Enrichment and Preparation Summer Program

The Center for Diversity in Engineering and Computing at Florida International University created the Miami Pre-college Enrichment and Preparation (PREP) Summer Program to serve the middle school and high school students of Miami-Dade County.  Miami PREP is a 6-week summer program for students currently in the 5th – 11th grades. The students will receive academic enrichment, a taste of college at FIU, and the opportunity to meet others with similar interests.
