In the mood for an auction?

Bid on the second annual FIU Hospitality Auction later this summer and you could end up enjoying some R&R poolside at El San Juan Resort & Casino.

The FIU School of Hospitality and Tourism Management will hold its second annual auction beginning on Monday, Sept. 5, and running through Oct. 2, to raise funds for student scholarships.

Last year’s auction raised a cool $55,000, and the school already has started reaching out via Facebook and Twitter to its friends so everyone can get a leg up on what promises to be a fierce bidding war.

Among the fabulous items that have been announced are stays at El San Juan Resort & Casino in Puerto Rico and the Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, as well as dinning experiences at hot spots like New York Central. (Don’t forget to “Like” FIUHospitalityAuction on Facebook to get updates on recently added auction items.)

“We want to put the word on the auction out early because we want to make sure our international base of alumni, friends, supporters and industry partners know they can start putting together a wish list and that they still have time to participate and support the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at FIU,” said Jessica Siskind, the school’s senior director of Development.

The money raised from the 2010 auction was used to award more than 30 academic scholarships and to support travel expenses and conference fees for students to attend important industry meetings. A part of the money also went to fund study-abroad scholarships and teaching assistantships.
