Incoming freshmen can now register for Panther Camp 2011

New freshmen have even more opportunity to take part in FIU’s Panther Camp with the expansion of the popular, off-campus, summer program.

This year, there will be three sessions of Panther Camp and registration is now open for all three. The cost for the three-day program is $75. Registration will remain open until all 130 spots are filled for each camp:

July 22-24:  Open to any incoming freshmen who are enrolled in Summer B courses.

Aug. 10-12: Open to incoming freshmen who begin classes in the fall.

Aug. 17-19: Open to incoming freshmen enrolled in both Summer B and the fall.

Panther Camp gives new freshmen an opportunity to make new friends, learn about university traditions and find out about all FIU has to offer. Voted the Outstanding Student Organization for the last three years, the camp takes place at Lake Placid Camp and Conference Center in Lake Placid, Fla., about two and a half hours north of MMC.

“We’re really happy to be able to expand Panther Camp to three sessions,” said Student Affairs Panther Camp advisor Marc Mobley. “The interest in the program is high. We’ve had a waiting list and we didn’t have enough space. We’re looking forward to a great summer.”

Panther Camp programs are organized and run by student executive board members and facilitators, many of whom were Panther Campers themselves.

Students routinely give Panther Camp rave reviews. Honors College student and biomedical engineering major Carson Sutton signed up last year as a way to meet new people. Afterward, Sutton said she was so glad she went.

“It’s amazing,” she said. “I met so many people. I’m so excited to be going to school at FIU.”
