Sun Belt Conference honors 100 FIU student-athletes


The Sun Belt Conference honored 100 FIU student-athletes July 11 for achieving grade point averages of 3.0 or better during the 2010-2011 academic year.

More than 30 Panthers were named to the Sun Belt Commissioner’s List, which honors all student-athletes recording a 3.5 GPA or better during the 2010-2011 academic year. Leading the way was women’s soccer with six honorees. Women’s basketball, swimming & diving and volleyball each had four student-athletes that earned a 3.5 GPA or higher.

Almost 70 FIU student-athletes were named to the Sun Belt Conference Academic Honor Roll, which is awarded to those maintaining a 3.0-3.49 GPA. Football led all sports with 13 student-athletes on the honor roll. Swimming & diving placed 11 Panthers on this year’s honor roll.

In all, the football team leads all FIU squads with 16 honorees, while swimming & diving produced 15. Women’s soccer rounds out the top three with 12 academic award winners.
