What do you enjoy most about your job?

It’s a three-way tie between getting to: a) know and work with people in nearly every administrative, academic and Student Affairs department; b) tackle a wide variety of challenging tasks; and c) undertake creative and ambitious projects.

What do you think faculty/staff and students should know about your department? What about FIU – how is the university “Worlds Ahead”?

FIU is truly an international leader in global learning in higher education. Universities all over the world are looking to us as an exemplar of institution-wide collaboration. Lots of colleges and universities put global awareness, global perspective and global engagement in their mission, but we have made these learning outcomes a reality.

Where is your favorite spot on campus? Why?

The Green Library. Our offices are located on the fourth floor. Every day I get to walk past hundreds of students bent over their textbooks in deep concentration. Books, librarians, the scent of Starbucks…it’s the heart of the campus.

Family snapshot:

I’m blessed with family and friends all over the world, but in my house it’s my 12-year-old son, Colin, and me.

Word that best describes you: Vivacious.

First paying job: Photocopying book-length, typewritten corporate tax returns, one page at a time, at my dad’s CPA practice.

Favorite TV show: Am I the only one who actually watches those Time Life collection advertisements? If “The Best of Soul Train” is on I can’t turn it off. I’m thisclose to buying it.

What is playing on your iPod?

Miles Davis, The Shins, Maria Rita, Bob Dylan, Raphael Saadiq, Angélique Kidjo.

What do you do when you are not working at FIU?

Run and bake. I’m baking right now, so I’d better run later.
