Isiah Thomas to participate in 41st Annual Legislative Conference

FIU and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) are partnering with Congresswoman Frederica S. Wilson and the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) to present a forum at CBCF’s 41st Annual Legislative Conference (ALC). Men’s basketball head coach Isiah Thomas will participate in a Sept. 23 forum sponsored by Wilson.

The annual conference is scheduled for Sept. 21-24 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

This year’s event features an iLead/iServe theme. Participants can choose from more than 85 forums addressing the critical challenges facing the African-American Diaspora. Free health screenings, a job fair, interactive financial sessions, networking opportunities and cultural activities are also planned.

Wilson’s session, “The High School Class of 2012” is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon. As of Aug. 25, confirmed participants include Alberto Carvalho, superintendent, Miami-Dade County Public Schools; Isiah Thomas, head coach, FIU men’s basketball;  Henry Lewis III, president, Florida Memorial University; Barrington Irving, captain and founder, Experience Aviation; and The Rev. Al Sharpton, president, National Action Network.

M-DCPS will award continuing education credits for educators who attend the forum.
