High school student Kylie Alvarez works to prepare a master mix to amplify DNA. Alvarez is a junior at TERRA Environmental Research Institute, a magnet school in Miami-Dade County Public Schools, and has spent the summer working in Prof. Mehmet Dorak’s lab.
