FIU Homecoming: Football, Floats and Food Trucks

In the midst of the most promising football season in its history, Florida International University will celebrate its Homecoming week with a series of events that will culminate with a football game, a parade, and a food truck rally.

For the first time, the food truck madness will sweep FIU as nearly 10 mobile eateries roll onto campus. The trucks, many of which are owned by FIU students or alumni, will serve everything from wraps to paella and sport names such as Red Koi, Monster Truck and Papas Tapas.

“Last year, our Homecoming was a success thanks to all of the people who came to campus to show their Panther pride,” said FIU President Mark B. Rosenberg. “This year’s Homecoming will be especially meaningful thanks to our students and alumni who have put their entrepreneurial spirit to work in these food trucks. Homecoming is our moment to shine and to show that we are Worlds Ahead in our commitment to FIU and its achievements on and off the field.”

The food trucks, which gather every Friday night at Tamiami Park, will begin setting up at 1 p.m. on October 1, 2011 along Campus Drive on the Modesto Maidique Campus, 11200 SW 8 Street in Southwest Miami-Dade County. The Homecoming parade will begin at 2 p.m. Cheer zones will be located  at the Southwest 16th Street entrance traffic circle and the Patricia and Phillip Frost Art Museum.

The celebrations will lead up to the Panthers facing off against Duke University at 7 p.m. at FIU Stadium. The game will be aired on ESPNU.

Homecoming week, which begins Monday, Sept. 26, also will see alumni reunitestudents lip sync and the Wayans brothers entertain. For a complete list of activities, please click here.
