FIU remembers 9/11

In a ceremony at the steps of Primera Casa, the FIU community paid tribute to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks 10 years ago.

The reflection ceremony held Friday, Sept. 9, was part of a week of events, “Unity/Diversity: Reflecting on the Meaning of 9/11,” organized by FIU’s Office of Global Learning Initiatives. Events enhanced participants’ ability to place 9/11 in personal, cultural, historical and geopolitical perspectives.

Students, faculty and staff heard what it was like to be in the Twin Towers that Tuesday morning from Michael Fineo, a Tower 1 survivor, and enjoyed an afternoon of music, poetry, songs and whirling by Sufi dervishes on Sept. 11.
