Highlights from Fall 2011’s Week of Welcome

This fall semester’s Week of Welcome was one of the most exciting ones FIU has hosted in recent years.

The university took time amidst the hustle and bustle of the new academic year to welcome everyone to the start of classes. A record enrollment of approximately 46,000 students marked the start of the 2011-’12 academic year.

Week of Welcome started Aug. 19 with students moving into the residence halls at Modesto A. Maidique Campus (MMC) and Biscayne Bay Campus (BBC). On Sunday, Aug. 21, the Class of 2015 packed the U.S. Century Bank Arena to celebrate the start of their college careers with their peers and their families at Freshmen Convocation.

The GC Pit came alive with the sounds of Panthers’ cheers and roars during the Campus Life Bonanza Aug. 24, and at BBC, students enjoyed a Blue & Gold Breakfast at Panther Square. BBC freshmen were welcomed with a traditional luau Aug. 25.

Due to rain, the eighth annual Trail of the Torch had to be postponed, but as you can see, the blue-and-gold family turned it up anyway to celebrate what promises to be another year of achievement, excitement and pride.
