Homecoming showdown: FIU vs. Duke

This year’s Homecoming showdown looks to be the best one yet: the Panthers vs. the Blue Devils of Duke. Game time is 7 p.m. at Alfonso Field at FIU Stadium.

The Panthers are experiencing their best season ever, opening with convincing wins over North Texas, Louisville and University of Central Florida (UCF). For the first time in the program’s history, the team is receiving votes in the AP Top 25 poll. The team’s latest gaudy statistic? It’s No. 1 in the country in total sacks (15) and No. 2 in the country in sacks per game (5) as of Sept. 23.

Senior wide receiver T.Y. Hilton remains a Heisman hopeful, despite seeing limited action in the UCF game due to a hamstring injury.

In contrast Duke has struggled, absorbing lopsided losses to Richmond and Stanford before notching a 20-19 win over Boston College in its third game. Blue Devil quarterback Sean Renfree set a new school record for passing in that game, going 41-of-53 for 368 yards.
