The American Heart Association is a nonprofit organization that raises awareness of the No. 1 and No. 3 killers of men and women in the United States — cardiovascular disease and stroke. Proceeds from the Heart Walk help fulfill the organization’s commitment to fund the research and education that is critical to reducing heart disease and stroke. FIU researchers have received more than $1.4 million in funding support from AHA through the years.
