Panthers drop Homecoming decision, 31-27


In front of a record-breaking crowd of 22,682, the FIU Panthers fell to the Blue Devils of Duke, 31-27, in a game that saw several lead changes. But it was Duke that came from 10 points down in the fourth quarter to leave The Cage with the win.

The Panthers had a chance to take the lead in the final two minutes of the game, getting to the Duke 10, but could not score a touchdown with the opportunity.

Both quarterbacks had big nights in the air. Duke’s quarterback Sean Renfree was 28 of 43 with 335 yards and two touchdown passes. FIU’s Wesley Carroll went 25 of 39 for 348 yards and three touchdowns. FIU’s Darret Perry ran for 102 yards on 17 carries and Kedrick Rhodes picked up 61 on 12. FIU outgained Duke 568 yards to 384 yards.
