Celebrate diversity, discover opportunity during International Education Week Nov. 14-18

Every November, FIU observes International Education Week with events at both Modesto A. Maidique and Biscayne Bay campuses.

On Nov. 14-18, the university will participate once again in this national initiative designated by the U.S. Departments of State and Education as an opportunity to highlight the benefits of international education and cultural exchange worldwide.

“Our goal at FIU is to put together a program that celebrates the benefits of international education,” said Ana Sippin, director of International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS).

ISSS has designed a schedule of events that will shine a spotlight on the different study-abroad opportunities available to FIU students, beginning with a Study Abroad Fair on Monday, Nov. 14, in the Graham Center at MMC. Later that day, organizers will showcase works by art and architecture students who have studied in Europe and Asia during an opening reception at the GC Gallery.

At BBC, events will kick off on Nov. 14 with the International Hospitality Games presented by the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, followed by an international cooking demo. Both events take place in the Wolfe University Center beginning at 11 a.m.

The week will feature sessions on Semester at Sea, Fulbright scholarships and H-1B visas, as well as forum on business etiquette and cross-cultural affairs, among other events that celebrate the diversity of our student body.

To close International Education Week at FIU, students will have a taste of the world’s diversity by, well…tasting the food, music and culture of multiple countries within Africa on Friday, Nov. 18, at 7 in GC 243 at MMC.
