FIU adds two commencement ceremonies to accommodate students, guests


To enhance the student experience and accommodate more friends and family members, FIU is adding two commencement ceremonies this December – one on the evening of Dec. 12 and one on the evening of Dec. 13.

The additional ceremonies are in response to student demand for more than the allotted five guest tickets. Students will now be able to obtain up to seven guest tickets – two (2) are complimentary, five (5) can be purchased for $5 each.

All ceremonies will be on the same day as originally scheduled, but some colleges and schools have shifted to a new time.

Revised ceremony schedule:

Monday, Dec. 12, 2011

10 a.m. Ceremony

  • College of Education (originally scheduled for 3 p.m.)
  • College of Engineering & Computing

3 p.m. Ceremony

  • College of Arts & Sciences –  School of Environment, Arts & Society (SEAS) and School of Integrated Science & Humanity (SISH)

7:30 p.m. Ceremony

  • College of Arts & Sciences  – School of International and Public Affairs (originally scheduled for 10 a.m.)

Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011

10 a.m. Ceremony

  • College of Business Administration – Landon Undergraduate School of Business

3 p.m. Ceremony

  • College of Architecture + The Arts (originally scheduled for 10 a.m.)
  • School of Journalism & Mass Communication
  • College of Business Administration – Chapman Graduate School of Business

7:30 p.m. Ceremony

  • Robert Stempel College of Public Health & Social Work (originally scheduled for 3 p.m.)
  • College of Nursing & Health Sciences (originally scheduled for 3 p.m.)
  • School of Hospitality & Tourism Management (originally scheduled for 10 a.m.)

If you have already registered for commencement and the time of your ceremony has changed, follow the steps below:

1. PICK UP a new commencement pass from the FIU Bookstores during the following dates and times:

  • MMC:  Nov. 28-29 and Dec. 1-2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Nov. 30, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • BBC:   Dec. 5-6, 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

2. ACCESS my.fiu.edu and REPRINT the electronic guest tickets any time before your commencement ceremony. The tickets will automatically reflect the new ceremony time. While you are on my.fiu.edu you may order additional guest tickets (maximum is 7) between Nov. 7 and 13. The steps for online orders and how to retrieve the electronic guest tickets are posted here.

3. NOTIFY family and friends of the schedule change.
