FIU College of Law hosts Citizenship Drive

Law students help those eligible for naturalization complete forms

FIU’s College of Law will be hosting a Citizenship Drive to help individuals eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship complete their N-400 naturalization forms. Under the supervision of Clinical Professor Juan Gomez, law students in the Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic will conduct the one-day drive. The event is part of a series of drives the College of Law is organizing for its Citizenship Project.

FIU Law also will host two citizenship exam review sessions during the drive. The sessions will be led by Miami-Dade County Public Schools instructors with support from FIU Honors College students.

The Carlos A. Costa Immigration and Human Rights Clinic is a one-semester clinic offered during the fall, spring and summer. Students in this clinic intervene on behalf of immigrants of all nationalities in a variety of settings.  In recent years, the clinic has expanded its advocacy to include international human rights work.

The drive is Saturday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the FIU College of Law at Modesto A. Maidique Campus. Appointments must be scheduled no later than Nov. 4.

Those interested in attending must schedule an appointment by calling 305-348-7541 prior to the event. Once the appointment is confirmed, a checklist with the necessary documents will be sent to all attendees.
