FIU recognized at Interamerican accounting conference

At the recent XXIX Interamerican Accounting Association (IAA) conference held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, FIU received the Fra Luca Bartolomeo Paccioli award.

Eduardo Mendez presented the certificate to Joyce J. Elam, executive dean of the business school; Ruth Ann McEwen, director, School of Accounting and Monique Catoggio (EMBA ’03), director of advancement and alumni relations.

According to Eduardo Mendez (MS’ 01, BA ’96), president of the Cuban American CPAs Association and Foundation, the prestigious award is named after the 15th-century Italian mathematician, who is dubbed the “father of accounting” and is credited with having invented the modern-day double-entry system.

During the same event, the IAA awarded Leonardo Rodriguez, professor emeritus, the Contador Benemerito de las Américas, the highest recognition given every two years to a member of the association.
